A new opener only works well on a balanced door, so an installation starts with the door and not the motor. DASMA is blunt about it: if a door feels heavy, the answer is not a more powerful opener, because openers are designed for doors that are already balanced. We balance-check first, and if a spring or cable is worn we replace it before the new opener goes up.
Then we match drive type and motor to the door's size and weight, mount the rail and the reinforcement bracket on the top section, set travel and force, and place the photo-eyes no higher than six inches above the floor. The wall control goes at least five feet up, out of reach of children. Before we leave, a block laid on the floor must make the closing door reverse, and breaking the sensor beam must reverse it too. Federal rules require reversal within 2 seconds of contact.
